Greenjobs Training Center

Hands-on Building Science and Solar PV Training Lab

Green Jobs Training Center, recognized as a leader in energy efficiency in New York, has routinely delivered innovative ideas now presents our newest addition to hands-on training.

Frequently, code officials and authorities, who provide a critical link in the process of Home Performance applications and permitting, lack familiarity with building science, codes and standards. This inexperience can lead to unnecessary steps in the approval process, slowing system installations and adding additional costs. The Building Science Mobile Training Lab addresses this significant barrier to the expansion of NYS home performance market by providing accessible training, helping to accelerate the process and reduce costs, while providing quality assurance of safe installations.

Mechanically designed to operate like a traditional home, Green Jobs Training Center (GJTC) Mobile Lab allows educators to provide students with hands-on training and all types of field-testing. Full control of mechanical systems and lab pressures allows instructors to create a learning environment that bridges classroom lecture with hands-on training – all without ever leaving the site. Dozens of real-life scenarios can be demonstrated in a fraction of the time it takes through traditional site visits; providing training, hands-on experience and cost savings.

Benefits:

  • Provides consistent training to regional contractors to insure code compliance through formalized training or in mini courses (CEUs).
  • Establishes a safe learning environment minimizing potential liabilities.
  • Standardizes field-training environment.
  • Provides real-world, hands-on training in a cost efficient manner.
  • Diminishes the liability and hassle of arranging site visits by removing the need to locate multiple relevant field sites, decreasing
travel coordination and maximizing training time.
  • Provides convenient training capacity for each local jurisdiction to build continuity in knowledge about building science/home
performance and pertinent codes within regions
  • Provides House as a System training and assessment environment for current technologies
  • Prepares students for field-training and testing using state-of-the-art residential application
