5 day Training Agenda 3 class and 2 field:
• Understanding the fundamentals of building science
• Identify and understand building performance problems including ice dams, mold and mildew, and indoor air quality issues
• Analyze buildings using “Blower Door” technology and other diagnostic equipment
• Assess building tightness, mechanical and distribution systems and combustion safety for a “whole house” performance-based approach
• Apply “blower door,” combustion safety and other diagnostics for assessing air leakage and efficiency in buildings in a practical manner

BPI Testing Information:
Following completion of this course, participants will be eligible to take the BPI written/online exam and field exam. The costs of the exams are NOT included in the instruction fee. There is a written/online exam which satisfies the first component of the BPI certification requirements. Candidates must also pass a field performance exam before receiving certification. Test dates will be selected from a choice given to students during classroom instruction.

Envelope Professional Training

In preparation for BPI certification exams (Shell Training)

Profit with Home Performance Training: This low-cost training program is designed as a secondary level course for Green Jobs and energy efficiency improvements primarily in residential buildings.

This training includes both classroom sessions and hands on field experience that prepares candidates for the nationally recognized certification of BPI’s Envelope Professional. Upon successfully passing the written and field performance evaluation exams candidates will be qualified to analyze and recommend the appropriate whole house remedies. Qualifying candidates may make special arrangements to take both BPI Building Analyst and Envelope Professional tests simultaneously*. The trainings consists of an overview of Health and Safety, Indoor Air Quality Assessment, Advanced Blower Door Applications, Insulation Techniques & Applications, and other topics related to improving building envelope efficiency through diagnostic testing.

*Note – The Envelope Certification in conjunction with the Building Analyst certification will make your company (and employees) eligible to apply for Accreditation (company i.e. insulation, weatherization, window installation company, retro fit construction etc.). BPI Accreditation may be required by many Federal, State & Utility programs. Accreditation can also be useful in acquiring various incentives for homeowners throughout each town and state. Additional fee applies.

Heating Professional Training

In preparation for BPI certification exams

Using a “whole house” performance-based approach, this training will cover advanced heating system diagnostics, evaluation, and repair skills to help you prepare for the Building Performance Institute’s Heating Professional on-line and field exams. Training will include review of some Building Analyst topics, but is not a Building Analyst preparatory course.

This 4-day workshop, which includes both classroom sessions and field experience, will help you prepare for the BPI Heating Professional written and field exams.

Topics will include:
Health and Safety, Heating System Science, Load and Sizing, Distribution Systems Design, Combustion Safety Science, Controls and Electrical Inspections, Ducted System Diagnostics, Combustion Appliance Vent Repair, SSE, Temperature Rise, Heating Appliance Clean & Tune, Gas/Oil testing of appliances, Duct Pressurization testing, Post-Installation Inspection, Mechanical System Durability, and Tools and Equipment.

The workshop will include hands-on application on various systems.

At the conclusion of this workshop, students will be prepared to take the BPI-Heating Professional Certification exam.

Insulation and Air Sealing Training

In preparation for BPI certification exams

The IAST Training will prepare you to implement measures to tighten the building envelope to reduce energy loss from air leakage, as well as the introduction of pollutants and allergens through air migration. This course will also prepare you to improve thermal comfort and energy efficiency through the proper installation of dense-pack insulation materials. This class will conclude with BPI Certification tests.

Training Overview:
This is a 4 day course that includes hands on training. The class will cover approaches of whole house weatherization and installation techniques. Students will receive hands on training that will focus on areas of health and safety on the job site, air sealing, insulation placement, sealing ductwork, and using blower door guided air sealing techniques to effectively weatherize a dwelling. Students will also learn organization techniques including crew management, organization on the job, and effectively organizing trucks to improve quality and quantity.

BPI Testing Information:
Following completion of this course, participants will be eligible to take the BPI practical exam. The cost of this exam is NOT included in the tuition fee. This practical exam satisfies the requirements for BPI certification. Test date will be arrange the first day of class. Candidates must pass this exam before receiving the Residential Building Envelope Accessible Areas Air Leakage Control Installer certification.

Air Conditioning & Heat Pump Professional Training

In preparation for BPI certification exams

This 4-day course provides participants with training on air conditioning and heat pump systems in residential buildings. This course will take place at Green Jobs Training Center’s cooling lab, where students will be able to gain valuable hands on experience with HVAC equipment and tools as well as classroom training. Students will learn about refrigerant properties, the refrigeration cycle, how to evaluate refrigerant charge (superheat and sub-cooling methods), air flow testing, and diagnostics. This course has prerequisites for students seeking BPI’s Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Professional certification. Training will include review of some Building Analyst concepts, but this is not a Building Analyst preparatory course. Our instructor has 33 years as an HVAC professional.

Prerequisites:
Students must have the EPA 40 CFR Section 608 Type II or Universal certification.

Infiltration and Duct Leakage (IDL) Certification

Deliver the tests that builders need to meet IECC* codes for air infiltration and duct leakage. The IDL certification is a straightforward, affordable approach to becoming certified for IECC code compliance.

For new home builders, existing housing, HVAC and insulation contractors, home performance professionals, code officials and design professionals.
