3 day (21 training hours) Building Science training w/BSP exam included.

Duration: Part 2:
2 day (14 training hours) of in-person field instruction preparation for an additional 4-hour proctored certifying field exam included.

Part 2 only:

Total cost for 2 day (14 training hours) field training hands on with equipment and additional 4 hour field exam total $1850.00 prerequisite BSP certificate.

Building Analyst Technician (BA-T)

In preparation for BPI certification exams

The BPI Building Analyst Technician (BA-T) certification is an early-career credential for workers in the home performance industry. This certification gives a great entrance to the industry while providing a clear path for professional growth.

A BA-T’s work includes data collection and diagnostic testing for whole-home assessments. The BA-T’s skills and knowledge include: buildings & their systems, testing & data collection, and industry standards.

The BA-T is earned by passing a field test with oral questions. BPI’s Building Science Principles Certificate of Knowledge (BSP) is a prerequisite for the BA-T certification exam.

The BAT part 1 & 2 course prepares professionals for careers in energy efficiency, weatherization and efficiency program delivery. The BAT provides detailed learning and practice of building inspection, data gathering, diagnostic testing, energy conservation measures, HVAC systems and health and safety inspections. Upon completion of this training class, students will challenge a 4-hour proctored field exam in order to gain the BPI Building Analyst Technician certification.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the house-as-a-system approach to small homes residential construction
  • Understand energy movement through heat, air and moisture transport and their impact on energy loss and building materials
  • Be able to conduct building inspection identifying health & safety issues
  • Be able to conduct diagnostic and combustion safety tests
  • Be able to gather all essential data from systems and building assemblies sufficient to develop a comprehensive scope of work
  • Become familiar with relevant codes and standards governing retrofit work
  • Understand the essential elements required for safe operation of combustion appliances and minimum elements for healthy indoor air.
  • Prerequisite: Building Science Principles Certificate ( which is included in this 5 day class) once the student has passed their open book written exam we can move onto their field exam.

Course Style: This is in-person instruction with reference guide, review summaries and practice exams.

Duration: 5 Days of in-person classroom theory (BAT part 1 ) and field instruction (BAT part 2) preparation for a 4-hour proctored certifying field exam.

We will:

  • Provide small-group, hands-on field instruction because we have multiple pieces of equipment for more hands on instruction
  • Provide all equipment and location for the field exam
  • Process candidate BPI application
  • Provide supplemental training materials
